June Beach Trip

We spent 5 days in Panama City at the beginning of June. Chad's birthday was June 2nd. Here are a few pics from our trip!

Mother's Day

As far back as I can remember, I wanted to be a mommy. I never imagined my life would be as wonderful as it is. I am thankful that I have two healthy, smart, loving, sweet boys and the BEST husband in the world! You guys are awesome!

Chad and I didn't register for good china when we got married. It really didn't seem practical for us at the time. Chad and the boys (on their own) went to Ted's Jewelers and picked out a beautiful set. They picked out Opal Innocence by Lenox, and got me started with 4, 5-piece settings. So all of you that think I am hard to buy for.....there are now plenty of choices!! :)

Carson's Kindergarten Graduation

Carson officially graduated from Kindergarten on May 18, 2009 . He learned so much this year. We are extremely proud of him! His teacher, Mrs. Barnes, says "If she had a classroom full of Carson's, her job would be too easy!" She told him he was the best student she's ever had. He has only reminded us of that 1 million times! :O) I am truly blessed to be his mom!

Late, but updated!

To my family who has been on my case about updating...I am sorry! Here I am, 2 months late, but updating as promised. I left off right before the boys' birthday party.

After all the planning, stress, and work that went into this party, it turned out exactly how I wished. The night before, we had terrible weather. It rained and rained! I was up most of the night checking the weather channel for updates, hoping and praying that it would pass overnight. Well, lucky we were! Not a single drop of rain during the party. The cake turned out awesome (Slice of Heaven Bakery) and the inflatable light sabers were a hit! Everyone had a great time fighting Dark Vader and learning some moves from Obi-Wan.

We got a new puppy! The boys named him Chipper, yes, after Chipper Jones! He is a Miniature Daschund!Chester is adjusting well and we are having so much fun with him!

Time flies when you're having fun! I promise to get back to regular posting after the boys' birthday party has passed. I decided to have one party for the both of them. They chose the "Star Wars" theme, and we are having the party at the Landmark Park Playground Pavilion on May 16th. It sure takes a lot of planning and is a little overwhelming at times. It could be that I am a little OCD about things being perfect! I am waiting on our invitations to arrive, which should be today or tomorrow, and once I get those out I will feel much relief. Jacquelyn, the boys' MeMe, and I met with a baker/designer yesterday and ordered the cake (R2D2) and also got the material for the Jedi outfits for our guests, which, by the way, is 22 little boys!! I also ordered our plates, napkins, etc., along with inflatable light sabers that were VERY hard to find! Chad also snagged the booking for our inflatable jumper to be delivered that morning! And as if I didn't have enough going on, I decided the boys needed themed shirts for their party. A friend, Tina, is going to embroider/applique Carson an Annakin shirt and Cole a R2D2 shirt. Thanks to everyone for your help and time!! I should have lots of pictures to share in a few weeks!

I know, I know! I haven't posted in a while. We have had a lot going on the past few weeks. Here are a few things that have kept us busy! T-ball games, birthday parties (6 in one week!), school stuff, Easter and egg hunts, planting flowers, stained the deck. Needless to say I haven't had much down time. We also started a new church. I pray the boys adjust and become comfortable quickly. Having friends that attend does make for an easier transition.

Another biggie for us this month is Cole's 5th birthday on April 24th! I cannot believe my baby is about to be 5 years old. I don't know where the time goes?? Does it ever slow down? It seems like yesterday I was cradling Cole at 1 month old while helping Carson walk, he, just shy of 1 year old. Two in diapers and drinking formula isn't easy on the wallet, but I would go back in a heartbeat!! Sleepless nights and all!!

We are ready for summertime! The mornings are still cool, but the afternoons have been nice and warm. With only a month left of school, we have been discussing vacations. The boys have been on 2 Carnival cruises, been to Disney World twice, and had many visits to all the area attractions (beach, zoo, etc.). We are somewhat limited to what we can do because of their ages. I really love Disney, so that would probably be my choice, but Chad doesn't want to go when it is so hot. I will post when we make a decision. Here are some pictures from the past couple of weeks.

We had Opening Ceremonies this past weekend, along with our first game! The morning started out very chilly at 8:30 am. I was bundled up with a blanket most of the morning! After opening ceremonies we had team pictures scheduled with Art Solomon at 10 am. Our game wasn't until 11 am, so after pictures they team warmed up in the outfield with ground balls and batting practice. The boys were ecstatic about playing in their first game. Along with the butterflies (in the stomach) came a million and one questions about who, what, where, when and why? Nothing out of the norm for my boys though! We (the parents) were a little nervous about the game, since we only had 3 practices prior. Spring Break was one week, and it was raining cats and dogs for the next 2 practices. With four cancelled practices back to back, we actually went into our first game with one really good practice under our belts. There were also a few rule changes for t-ball this year. The Coach is required to pitch each batter a minimum of 2 balls before the tee can be brought in. With thirteen 5 and 6 year old boys, you never know what you will get. As 11 am neared, the sun heated up! Needless to say we shed our blankets! The game started and boy were we surprised! No need to worry, as our 16-3 victory proved! The boys played better than we could have imagined! They made outs and everyone got a hit WITHOUT the tee! We definitely stood out against the other teams! We can't wait until our next game!

Lovin' My New Nikon!

I finally got the last thing on my "want list"! Yeah right! Does that ever happen?? Just Kidding! I have wanted a D-SLR camera for a really long time and I finally talked dear husband into getting me one. After many, many days of researching online and playing with the actual cameras in the stores I decided on the Nikon D60, which came with an 18-55mm lens, and I bought the 55-200mm VR lens also. I have always used Kodak point and shoots, so I am still in the learning process! Today is the first time I have really put it to use. The boys were playing outside so I decided to give it a try. I know some of these photos are a little blurry, and the trampoline safety net makes them look out of focus, but I still thought they were pretty cool and wanted to share! Please bear with me, they will get better, I promise!

Fun, Fun Friday!

I got a much needed wild hair on Friday morning! I woke up early, around 7am, and decided I needed to clean out our (mine and Chad's) closet. We recently had our house painted and all the little stuff that had to be moved, found its way to our closet. I knew it would take a while, so I promised, OK bribed, the boys , that if they were good I would take them somewhere later in the day. Sorry I didn't take any before photos, but just take my word for was a disaster! This is what our closet looks like LESS the 250 pieces of clothing I removed! 90% of it being mine! I really like our clothes to be organized by season, style and color, but after 6 hours, and two bored boys, I decided to save that for another day! Chad has just as many or more clothes than I do, and it's sad to say that we need a bigger closet!!

We took the boys to see the long awaited Monsters vs. Aliens movie last night. It definitely rose to the occasion and receives a 5 star rating from the Dykes family! We chose to see the 3D version. It was very similar to the 3D shows at Disney World. We have taken the boys to Disney twice, and last night was the first 3D show that Cole actually wore his glasses the entire time. Carmike 12 had many showings of the movie, so the theatre wasn't too crowded. That in itself was worth the $9 ticket. I included some pictures of us wearing our 3D glasses.

The next movie we are looking forward to is, Disney's Up,a comedy adventure about a 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who finally fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip: an overly optimistic 9-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. Release date is May 29,2009.

Another one we can't wait for is, Warner Bros. Where the Wild Things Are; The story centers around imagination, and the way that children use imagination to play, escape, and even practice life skills. The book was first published in 1963, and it won the 1964 Caldecott Medal as the "Most Distinguished Picture Book of the Year." If you haven't read the book to your kiddos, you should do so before you see the movie. We love, love this book! The movie doesn't release until October 2009. Forever, I know!! We also have X-Men Origins, Earth 3D, Under the Sea 3D, and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs on our "To See" list.

Carson has mastered dotting i's!!

Although Carson is good at dotting his i's, I am talking about the other kind of eyes! We actually can't believe it took this long. We have officially had our first real "black eye". We always expect that one of the boys will get hurt, as much as they wrestle and play fight. On Wednesday they were playing rough on the trampoline and Carson "accidentally" hit Cole in the eye. Needless to say, we had many tears shed, a few ice packs, Children's Motrin, ice cream, and even a couple of "I'm Sorry's"! It was much more swollen than in the picture. He could barely see out of his eye on Thursday morning. We have portraits scheduled next week, so let's hope it is better by then!

Carson lost his first tooth on Sunday, March 22! We have been waiting a few weeks for this tooth to come out. He really didn't know what to think after Chad pulled it out. After a few seconds of thinking about it, he was very proud. Today is the first day of Spring Break and Carson wishes he was at school to show everyone he lost a tooth!

1st Annual Jones Jam

On Saturday, March 21st, we attended the 1st Annual Jones Jam. The concert was held for suppport of Country Crossings. Aaron Tippin, Clint Black and George Jones were a few in attendance. We couldn't have asked for better weather. It was a beautiful day and there was a great turn out. We went with some of our great friends, the Palmers'. A highlight of Cole's day was riding in Mr. Scott's jeep. He says he likes riding in cars without tops! The boys played football, had frozen ice treats, and corn on the cob. Carson even had a nap! I am including a few pics from the day!

FunZone's First Practice

Tonite was our first t-ball practice of the season. It has been raining the past couple of days so we were very lucky to have Mr. Pittman allow us to use his indoor facility, FUN-damentals of Baseball, to practice. He is also the head baseball Coach at Providence Christian School. We had a good night and are very excited to kick off the season. Here is a picture of our team!

Top Row, Left to Right: Alex, Dylan, Carson, Bauer, Jace
Bottom Row, Left to Right: J.C., Pierce, Colby, Cole and Carter
I wanted to share some exciting news! We received our letters from Dothan City Schools stating that we got in Heard Magnet School for the upcoming school year. Carson for 1st grade and Cole for K. We are so excited! We are really comfortable at Heard and love our awesome principal and teachers! We are also starting to like the idea of uniforms. I think it will make my mornings so much easier; not having to argue about what to wear.

The Finished Products!!

Here are our shirts that we made on Thursday.
I think they turned out awesome! They were very proud!

Tye-Dye Thursday

Thursday was such a pretty day that I, out of the blue, decided to let the boys make their first tye-dye shirts! We had a lot of fun so I wanted to share some pics with you! It was a little windy so we had to be careful not to spill the dye. We threw on some play clothes so it wouldn't matter if we got dye on them. Although we did have dye from our nose to our toes! We are letting the shirts dry over night. I can't wait to see the boys faces when they take their rubberbands off and reveal their creation! I will definitely have to share the finished products. Chad was up and moving around tonite. We are so happy he is feeling better!

Finally joining the blogging world!

Okay, so I have finally decided to take the time to join the blogging world! We all know how hard it is to keep up with one another, so I hope you all enjoy! I have the best intentions on trying to keep everyone up-to-date with whats going on with us. Today is the anniversary of mine and Chad's first date, back in 1997. I would have loved to have a date night, but Chad has been sick since Sunday with the flu and tonsillitis. I am praying that he gets well soon!

I know the boys aren't babies anymore, but they are growing and changing as much as they did when they were babies!! We are still having firsts so that is exciting! Carson and Cole will start t-ball this year and are very excited! Chad is going to be their Coach and he is as excited as they are. They will have their first practice coming up soon. I will update with pics!

Carson is loving Kindergarten and we adore his teacher. His reading skills have improved and he is now able to read books. What a huge step! He is so proud to be able to read books to US! He also received Good Citizen this month. He recently learned to ride his bicycle with no training wheels, and has his first loose tooth. He is constantly wiggling it trying to make it come out.

I decided to keep Cole at home with me this one, last year. Since they are only 11 months apart, I never really had a lot of alone time with him, so I felt like he deserved to have that (and me too!) We spend our days basically doing whatever comes to mind at the time. His favorite thing right now is Power Rangers. He knows all of the rangers, their suits, and their moves. He wakes up thinking about them! He likes being little and isn't interested in taking any "huge" steps, so until he starts Kindergarten in the fall, we will enjoy being little. We have applied for the magnet school and should know if we got in or not by March 16th. Let's keep our fingers crossed!! Until next time....
